At Houston iPhone Screen Repair, we make a point to stay on top of the best ways to repair smartphones at a price you can be happy about. However, we also love to stay up to date with the coolest new features constantly being added to the super computer in your hand. As you know by now, Apple introduced their newest phone, the iPhone Xs, and with it, it’s newest software update, iOS 12.
The phone is amazing, and that’s an understatement, but the software update came with some pretty amazing stuff as well. If you haven’t learned about them yet, we wanted to share some of our favorite new features here.
Let’s go!
- “Measure” App
Using augmented reality, Apple’s new app called Measure allows you to measure the distance and length of pretty much anything. With the app open, just point your phone’s camera at whatever you’d like to measure. Then tap the starting point of what you are measuring and drag a line with your finger to the ending point to create the measurement. Apple’s new app also automatically detects the size of several objects like photos and rectangular images. This app is a huge time saver when it comes time to measure windows, furniture, and many other items. The Measure app always turns your iPhone into a level. How cool is that?!
- Siri Shortcuts
If you have had an iPhone for a while, the you know there are certain tasks and apps you use much more than others. You’ve pretty much built phone habits, many of which have become almost second nature. So Apple created Siri Shortcuts to make your life easier. Basically, it lets you create “if this, then that” commands for Siri. For instance, if you use an app to order coffee every day, Siri recognizes this and gives you the ability to do it straight from your lock screen when it’s time. You can also create phrases like “It’s time to go home” and it triggers your maps app to open to show you the shortest route. Or you could say, “Workout” and your health tracker app will log your activity, or “I lost my keys” and it triggers your Tile app to play an alarm to find your keys.
- Screentime
This iOS 12 feature is can be a blessing and a curse. It shows you exactly how much time you spend on your phone each day, week, and month, and which apps you use the most. Think you don’t spend that much time on games or social media – or on your phone at all? You’d probably be surprised how much time you invest on your phone. This cool feature allows you to manage your screen time better so you can be more productive, or spend more time on things that matter. Set it up to send you notifications so you can track your phone time each day.
- “App Limits” App
That’s where this next new iOS 12 feature comes in handy. Apple added its new tool, App Limits, to set specific time limits within each app you chose. Want to only spend an hour each day on Facebook? App Limits helps you do that. Want to set limits for your kids on their phone or tablet? You can do that, too. You can also set limits within specific categories, like games, and in specific apps.
- Bonus: Group FaceTime
Although it wasn’t quite ready for the iOS 12 launch, Apple has a pretty cool new feature that has just been launched with iOS 12.1. It’s called Group FaceTime. This feature allows you to video chat with more people than ever before. You can do a FaceTime call with anywhere from 2 to 32 people now. It also supports stickers, filters, Animojis and Memojis.
There are many more amazing features in iOS 12 and iOS 12.1. This list is just scratching the surface. What are your favorite new features? We’d love to hear about them!
